Steve Rogers was given a uniform and name to embody the United States the name was...Captain America. Along with the uniform Steve was given a triangular shield, decorated in a manner similar to his uniform. Captain America was designed not only to serve as our nations patriot but to also act as a counter agent to his Nazi counter part...the Red Skull. Steve was first stationed at Camp Leigh, where he met the Camp's mascot...Bucky Barnes. Sometime after he was stationed at Camp Leigh, posing as Steve Rogers; company screw-up by day, and by night he was sneaking off base to run his missions under the name of Captain America, Bucky wondered into Steve's tent as he was switching from his normal military uniform, to his Cap uniform. Bucky convinced Steve to train him as his partner and a union like none other was born. Captain America and Bucky continued to fight alone and with others throughout most of the war. Among the teams that Cap and Bucky fought with were the Invaders, and Sgt. Fury's Howling Commandos. Near the end of the war Cap and Bucky were on the trail of Baron Heinrich Zemo who was going to attempt to send an expirimental drone plane to his masters. Cap and Bucky caught up with him only to fall smack into a booby trap. The booby trap killed Bucky, and sent Cap towards the freezing waters of the English channel. Captain America remained there in suspended animation until the Avengers on the trail of the Sub-Mariner found Cap being worshipped by Eskimos. Upon learning that the original Captain America had been lost to war, President Harry S. Truman found a replacement. That of William Nasland. William accepted the title and was the second person to have the roll of Captain America. William had previously been a member of the Crusaders and had recieved his training from a man named "Alfie" whom he believed a British government representative. Nasland was originally known as the "Spirit of '76" during his time in the Crusaders. After he accepted the roll of Captain America he served with Fred Davis as the new Bucky and the two fought throughout the rest of the war with the Invaders. After the war both William and Fred were part of the All Winners Squad. In 1946 William was killed in a battle with an evil android called AdamII who was trying to assasinate a Boston congressional cantidate named John Kennedy. He was found dying by Jeff Mace of the Liberty Legion. Jeff was a reporter at the Daily Bugle by day and was known as the costumed fighter the Patriot by night. Jeff was the leader of the "Liberty Legion" a group started by the original Bucky to act opposite the Invaders, who were at that time under the order of the Red Skull. Jeff took the shield and costume and continued the legacy of Captain America by defeating AdamII. Mace continued on as Captain America as a member of the All Winners Squad until he retired in 1950.

1950's The fourth Captain America's real name is unknown. What is known is that in 1952 after Jeff Mace had retired from being Cap, Captain America IV had graduated college with a P.h.d. in American history, doing his thesis on the life of Captain America. In 1953 Cap IV flew to Germany and examined the files of a Nazi espionage agent named Kerfoot. He was surprised when he found the original Super Soldier formula among his notes. After making this discovery he showed the documents he had found to some of the high officials in the U.S. Government. Cap IV struck a deal with the government to become the new Captain America to serve as a symbol of America during the Korean war. The deal also entailed that this man legally have his name changed to "Steve Rogers", his voice cords approximated to that of the original Cap, and he had plastic surgery to make him identical to the original Steve Rogers. Unfortuantely the Korean conflict was over before "Steve" could be deployed. "Steve" was very upset about missing his chance and took on "post" at a school in Conneticut. It was here that "Steve" met Jack Monroe, a man who shared "Steve"'s passion for Cap. Jack Monroe was born on December 7, 1941 (Pearl Harbor day) and was intensly beaten as a young child. The reasons for these beatings came from his parents who were nazi sympathizers. In order to ensure that Jack would not let anyone know about the nazi beliefs of his parents his father beat him. It was not until one day at show and tell when young Jack had brought in a swastika that the light was shed on what was happening to him at home. The F.B.I. were dispatched to the town and after a little ice cream as coersion Jack spilt his guts about his parents. Jack buried his past in his subconsious and never let anyone in on it. This meeting of the two was not an accident is was planned by the government so that a man who's father had been a nazi could be someone that fought that kind of evil. Thus with "Steve" as the fourth Captain America, Jack Monroe became the fourth person to adopt the role of Bucky. In 1953 a terrorist impersonated the Red Skull and took over the United Nation's building. At this time both "Steve" and Jack took the super soldier formula and went into action. They did defeat the imposter Red Skull and many other costumed criminals but because they had taken the serum without the radiation treatment the serum had a terrible effect on them and both "Steve" and Jack went slowly insane. They were taken into custody by the F.B.I. and were put into suspended animation. 1960's In the 1960's the Avengers battled with Namor and defeated him. Namor, defeated came upon a group of Eskimos worshipping a figure in a block of ice. Because Namor was disgusted he launched the figure into the warm currents of the ocean where the figure within slowly thawed. The figure was retrieved by the Avengers who were on the trail of the Sub-Mariner. The figure revived from his sleep was indeed the original Captain America, Steve Rogers. He had returned after a 2 decade long sleep. Captain America joined the Avengers and even took over the role of leader when the original Avengers left. It was at this time that he recruited three criminals who had been reformed; the criminals Hawkeye, Quicksilver, and Scarlet Witch along with Cap made up the "new" Avengers. The foursome of Cap, Hawkeye, Quicksilver, and Scarlet Witch were sometimes known as Caps kooky quartet. During the 60's Cap fought evil alongside the Avengers and with SHIELD. Captain America became close friends with Col. Nicholas Fury, who he knew as Sgt. Fury during World War II, and Agent 13 of SHIELD or Sharon Carter which is her real name. Steve met Sharon through a woman whom he was romantically involved with during World War II name Peggy Carter. 1970's The 1970's were spent combating various plots hatched by the Red Skull. The same Red Skull that had been the man Cap was created to combat during World War II. He also fought against the evils of such groups as A.I.M.(Advanced Idea Mechanics), the Secret Empire, and Hydra. Steve also met a man named Samuel Wilson on one of his missions against the Red Skull. Sam had been known as "Snap" Wilson on the streets of Brooklyn and was on a mob assignment to Rio De Ginario when his plane crashed. Sam found himself of the island in the Carribean, run by the Exiles who were friends and protoges of the Red Skull. The Red Skull was in control of the cosmic cube at that time and changed Sam from his "Snap" self back into the man he was before his personallity changed,(Check out Falcons Bio) so the Skull could use his against Cap as a pawn. After the Skull transformed Wilson back to his normal state he also strenthened the bond that Sam had between his pet falcon the Redwing. Under Cap's guidence and training the two defeated the Exiles and returned to the U.S. Sam took on the identity of the "Falcon" and fought crime with Cap both on the Avengers and when Cap was working on his own. Later in the Falcon's career he donned a special technology designed by the Black Panther's Wakandan technicians which enabled him to fly via jet-powered glider wings. During his battle with the Secret Empire Steve found that the leader of this group was actually a high ranking government official. When Cap confronted this government official, who turned out to be the president, the man commited suicide. (This is the Watergate scandle and how Marvel wrote it into the Captain America book.) The government covered the suicide and Steve was very upset and relinquished his role as Captain America to become for a short time. Nomad, the man without a Country. While Steve took on the role of Nomad, fighting plots to take over the world from Roxxon Oil co, and Madamme Hydra, others impersonated Captain America. The first person since Steve retired to where the uniform was a baseball player named James Russo, after James Russo a gang member named "Scar" took on the role. Later a man named Roscoe wore the uniform. The Red Skull killed Roscoe for impersonating Cap. Steve Rogers was very upset about the death of Roscoe and Steve was thrust back into action as Cap. With the original Captain America, Steve Rogers along with Falcon, and Sharon Carter took on the Captain America and Bucky from the 1950's. During their time in suspended animation "Steve" and Jack were under the psychologic advise of Dr. Faustus who unknowingly was brain washing the two. Dr. Faustus in control of "Steve" made him into the Grand Director, the leader of a neo-nazi hate group. Steve and Falcon beat this enemy but not without the loss of Sharon Carter, whom was killed apparently by Dr. Faustus. Although Steve did not ever see an actual body, Sharon's death was viewed on video tape. 1980's In the 1980's after Sharon's death, Steve moved to Brooklyn Heights. In Brooklyn Steve met and fell in love with Bernadette Rosenthal. It was Bernie who first discovered Captain America's secret identie after meeting him in costume. During the 80's new challengers face Cap in the form of the Serpent Society, the Flag Smasher, Super-Patiriot, and the Scourge of the Underworld. It is during these escapades that Bernie decides to leave Brooklyn to persue a law degree. Steve and Bernie have a long distance relationship for some time but it fails and they go their seperate ways. Steve eventually meets a member of the Serpent Society who is trying to reform named Diamondback, who also acts as the romantic intrest for Cap. In 1987 the government decided that despite the fact that Steve Rogers had been serving as Cap both on his own and with the Avengers that the uniform rightly belongs to the government. Steve is asked to come to work directly under the command of the government. With much sorrow Steve relinquishes the shield and uniform, along with the title back to the government and the task of finding a new Captain America is at hand. The commision appointed to decide this decides that John Walker, alias Super-Patriot, would be the best choice for a new Captain America. Steve decides he can still serve America and enlists the help of the Black Panther to make him a uniform. Steve becomes the Captain and adopts a black, red, and white uniform. Walker spends most of his time as Cap slowly gaining respect for Steve because of the way he handled his title as Cap and how John could never accomplish that. Eventually Johns parents are caught by the Watchdogs; a terrorist group and killed. This would never had happened had John's new role as Cap not have been identified by two of his friends. John goes nuts and kills most of the Watchdogs group, and then goes after the two friends that revealed his identity known as the Left and Right Wingers. John kills them to and with his partner Battlestar the two of them fight an enemy in the arctic and the original Captain America; Steve Rogers comes to help. John is placed under custody of the government but recieves word that the shield of his that was lost to him in the arctic is being held by someone at a building. John puts on the Cap uniform one more time to fight evil. Unknown to him the original Cap is been summoned their too after the head of the commission that revoked Steve's title, uniform, and shield was killed apparently by some of the Red Skull's dust of death. Steve and John get there and while John fights against a horde of foes, Steve learns that the person behind almost every plot that was planned against him was the Red Skull. The Red Skull had apparently died but managed to transfer his consience to another body, one cloned from Steve. Steve and John battle without shields to see who should be the real Cap. Steve defeats a stronger John Walker only to be confronted by the Steve clone the Red Skull inhabited. While Steve was looking at his identical clone the Skull tried to get some of his dust of death on Steve but it accidentally got on the Skull and the face he had which looked like Steve was again transferred into the Red Skull. Later Walker is stripped of the Captain America title, sheild and uniform and they are offered back to Steve, who refuses saying that even though he was not in the Cap uniform he could still help America. Walker pleads with him and in the end Steve does return as Captain America. The next couple years missions for Cap come in the form of the Bloodstone Hunt, and the acts of Vengence. During the 1980s it is also important to mention the introduction of Crossbones. Crossbones becomes one of Caps greatest villians. 1990's The Red Skull as he returned gets his own personal band of mercenaries called the Skeleton Crew, headed up by Crossbones in the 1990's. Steve spends a lot of time building infastructure for his base of operations along with leading the Avengers. He leads the Avengers throughout Operation Galactic Storm and parts with many of his friends after they decide to kill the "Supreme Intelligence" to ensure that further mishaps will not occur. In 1994 Steve is wracked with pain and upon medical evaluation learns that the Super Soldier Serum is finally going south on him. Steve spends most of his other time trying to find a successor to the role of Captain America. He enlists the help of two young Cap wanna-be's named Free Spirit and Jack Flagg. As his condition worsens Steve is reduced to having to wear a set of gadgets on his chainmail. After the serum and repeated doctor orders are ignored the serum finally lies out Steve and he is told by Iron Man that he will never move again. However Tony Stark designs a special exo-skeleton for Cap and he has mobility, though not his own. Finally the Black Crow has a preminition about Steves impending death and Steve lies down on his last night and drifts off to sleep. When he is finally woke up he realizes that not only is he not dead but that he can move again. Steve meets up with Sharon Carter, who was not dead but instead dropped out of sight after SHIELD "cut her loose". Steve finds out that he had a total blood transfusion meaning only one thing was possible. The Red Skull had been the blood donner. (Remember that the Skull and Steve have the same genetics because of the Skulls artificial life through Steve's body.) Steve, Sharon, and the Red Skull fight together against the a group called the Kubecult, who believe that Adolf Hitler is within the cosmic cube that they had siezed. The Skull figured since that was what Captain America was made to defeat that better save him, rather than watch him die. The three defeat the Kubecultist and the Red Skull too perishes after Steve destroys the cosmic cube. After the incident with the Kubecult, Steve is branded a traitor to the government for supposedly selling weapons secrets to the country Moldavia. Captain America doning a new uniform and Sharon work to clear his name of wrong doing bringing them up against another of Caps previous villians MachineSmith. They defeat MachineSmith and Steve's name is cleared of all wrong doing and the sheild, uniform, and title are back in his hands. The final fate of Captain America was that when the X-Men were fighting the mutant menace Onslaught, the Avengers, along with Steve, threw themselves into the zenith of power that was Onslaught. Later returned after realizing that the new "Franklinverse" was not their world the Avengers, Cap, the Fantastic Four, and Iron Man create a ship to break through that universe back to their own and return to their world. Captain America is back and takes on the task of first fighting Lady Deathstrike then the group Hydra. During the latter two Captain America is the "big" thing and is at the height of his popularity. He struggles to deal with this as he was never a really popular or well-known hero. We have recently learned that Skrulls stuck on the earth have been bringing Caps popularity up so they can use it against him when the time comes. When the time did come the shape shifting Skrulls pretended to be Cap and tried ruining his reputation by saying that half the population had been replaced with Skrulls and people hit the streets to find them. Cap, with the help of the Avengers and Fantastic Four thwarted the plan of the Skrulls saving Cap's reputation. Cap has since vowed to be a 'man of the people' and wants to work being involved in some of the peoples problems. Well that's where we are now in the world of Captain America. I know this is not the end Captain America
